Built in the 1900s and set amidst landscaped gardens on the shores of Lake Maggiore, Hotel Astor is located one kilometre from the village of Pallanza, a 2.5 kilometre boat ride from the Borromean islands. The 52 guestrooms feature light decor and mahogany or rattan furniture with lake or garden views. Some rooms include wide scenic balconies and all are equipped with bathrooms, televisions and direct-dial phones.
A buffet breakfast is served each morning and guests can dine on Piemontese cuisine in the restaurant which offers panoramic lake views, enjoy a cocktail in the bar, relax in one of the intimate sitting rooms overlooking the gardens, or catch up on the latest news in the TV lounge. Taxis to the hotel charge in the region of 110 EUR. Alternatively guests can catch a shuttle bus to Gallarate, and then take the Milano/Domodossola line to the Verbania/Pallanza station, three kilometres from the hotel. Boats and ferries connect the towns around the lake, providing a practical and pleasurable way to explore the area.<BR> Driving directions: From the airport, follow signs to Milan. From Milan take the A8 motorway in the direction of Milano-Laghi. Take the Varese exit onto the A26 and head towards Gallarate. Take the "Vergiate-Sesto Calende" or "Arona, Gravellona Toce" exit and drive in the direction of Verbania. Once there, follow the signs to Villa Taranto, then drive past the villa and follow the road bordering the lake. The hotel is 50 metres on the right.
