The Hacienda San Jose
Area: Izamal City - 34 Km / Tixkokob
Location. A reconstructed 18th-century sisal plantation, the Hacienda San Jose is located within the ancient Mayan province of Cehpech in the town of Tixkokob, Mexico. Second in size only to the Vatican, a convent at Izamal City stands 34 kilometers from this property. Hotel Features. The hacienda's dining venue, Restaurant San José, is located on a covered outdoor terrace, surrounded by the grand archways that reflect this property's colonial history. Regional ingredients and local culinary techniques harmonize to create this restaurant's innovative gourmet dishes. By night, flickering candlelight illuminates intimate, romantic dinner settings. An outdoor bar is located next to the restaurant, where sweet-scented breezes drift from the adjacent flowering gardens. Days may be passed at an elegant outdoor pool. A hammock spans a shaded section of the pool, offering afternoon-naptime luxury. An outdoor spa cabin is distinguished by ceiling-high wooden beams and houses a jetted spa tub. Within this pristine atmosphere, massage therapists apply native Mayan treatments intended to soothe and renew weary souls. Property amenities include shuttle service within the surrounding area and bicycle rentals.
Guestrooms. Sky-blue, mineral-painted walls and historic architectural remnants add character to this hacienda that houses 15 Mayan-influenced guestrooms and villas. A traditional gesture of hospitality, flower petals are strewn over the plush, pillow-top beds upon guests' arrival. Wake-up service is delivered via fresh-scented aromatherapy candles and tropical birdsong. Décor that evokes the splendor of 18th-century plantation life includes massive double doors, 18-foot-high beamed ceilings, rustic wooden beds, dark, tropical hardwood cabinets, cool tile floors and woven cotton hammocks. Authentic Mayan palapas serve as villas, and feature minibars, private terraces, satellite television and Internet access. Most villas include small, private pools and gardens.
Expert Tip. The hacienda's grounds reveal a completely restored 18th-century chapel where wedding ceremonies are performed.
